Nigeria’s Goodness Chiemerie Nwachukwu was on a different level, clinching the gold medal in women’s Discus F42-44/61-64 event with an unprecedented throw of 36.56m at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham yesterday.
She threw 34.84 to set a new World Record and broke her own Record (World Record) she achieved on March 20, 2022 in South Africa, when she threw 33.35s.
Sarah Edimston of Australia and Fiji’s Naibili Vatunisolo won the silver and bronze medals respectively.
Meanwhile, Nigeria added more medals in the powerlifting event of the 2022 Commonwealth Games after Folashade Alice Oluwafemiayo set a new world record with 123.4kg in the women’s heavyweight.
Bose Omolayo added a silver medal after lifting 115.2kg in the same weight category to add to Nigeria’s medal in the games.
In the last outing for Team Nigeria last night, Obichukwu Ikechukwu won yet another a silver in the last Para Powerlifting event of the day with in the men’s heavyweight category.
This has increased Nigeria’s medals to four gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
