Ooni-of-Ife

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, Ojaja 11, yesterday for the first time narrated how the Osile Oke-Ona Egba, Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, prayed for him that he would one day sit on the throne of his forebears.

Oba Ogunwusi, the royal father of the day at a book roundtable and awards organised by Flannel Business School in Lagos, said he had met Oba Tejuosho and partnered with him, just like many other personalities, in the area of real estate when he was still a prince.

He added that the royal father was very cooperating and supported him during their partnership.

Narrating what transpired, Oba Ogunwusi said: “In everything you do, do it well because you don’t know what will happen to you in the next one hour. When destiny calls, destiny calls. Never in life do you underrate anybody.”

He advised his audience to always treat their drivers and housemaids well; because of the day they would have cause to take their pound of flesh.

The traditional ruler recalled that one day in 2013, at the wedding of a daughter of the late Ooni of Ife, Olubuse Sijuade, Oba Tejuosho accosted him and told him he wanted to ease himself.

He said he took the monarch to the restroom and he was told to go back and face his duties of organising the event.

He said he waited for Oba Tejuosho to finish in the convenience and the royal father was surprised to see him standing at a corner in the restroom.

“When the Kabiyesi saw me, he said ‘Omooba, Omooba, God bless you. Let me pray for you’. And that day he prayed for me. He said ‘when the time comes, you will come and turn around this palace and you will ascend the throne’.

“He used his powerful tongue to pray for me. And I saw him to the car and prostrated. And Kabiyesi left for Abeokuta. Just two years down the line, my father (Ooni Sijuade) left this world. Today, to the glory of God, I am the 51st Ooni of Ife. Baba, thanks to you and thanks for your prayers.”

Oba Ogunwusi, thereafter, asked the audience to thank Oba Tejuosho and clap for him.
