A container containing 4,996,200 Tramadol capsules was intercepted at the Onne port in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
The capsules, weighing 2,498.2kg and packed in 1,387 cartons, were intercepted on Tuesday, according to Femi Babafemi, spokesman for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), in a statement issued yesterday.
The drugs were discovered during an inspection of a container labeled MRKU 0764717 by NDLEA and Nigeria Customs Service officials (NCS).
Babafemi stated that the container was on the Agency’s radar.
He also said one Muntari Hamidu, 42, was arrested in Nyibango in Jimeta area of Yola, the Adamawa State capital, with 13 sacks of cannabis sativa weighing 166kg.
Another suspect Sani Musa was equally apprehended with 16.1kg of skunk at Ngurore, Yola South LGA of the state.
Both were arrested on Sunday, according to the statement.
“On the same day, a team of NDLEA operatives from Ondo State Command also arrested one James Godspower with 36.5kg of cannabis sativa in Faloye, Ogbese, Akure North LGA of Ondo State.
“Chairman/Chief Executive of NDLEA, Brig. General Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) in his reaction, lauded the renewed synergy between the Agency and other security agencies in its operations.”
