The monarch of Oka-Odo Akoko in Akoko South-West Local Government Area of Ondo State, Oba Pius Akande, has knocked the Federal Government for allegedly neglecting traditional institutions in the country.
The traditional ruler said the Federal Government was not doing enough for the traditional institution in the country.
Oba Akande stated this during the celebration of his second coronation anniversary and the new yam festival of the community.
The monarch, who also supported the call for the establishment of state police for effective security, said he would revive many traditional activities that had been abandoned or neglected in the past, in the community.
He said, “We are happy. I have to fasten my belt to bring development to my people. The Federal Government is not performing as regards traditional rulers. If we have somebody like Governor Akeredolu in the Federal Government, it would be better. Government at the central level is not doing well. Money is there but the Federal Government has refused to release the money.
“We have been neglected for a long time. Most of the (traditional) things we have been doing have been neglected.
“We just had the throne that was taken from us since 1904. Most of the things we were doing before have been abandoned. We are trying to resurrect them and bring them back. I have nothing against masquerade, I have nothing against Christianity, I have nothing against Muslims. All religions will be allowed in my community.”
The monarch also lauded the governor for improving the security architecture of the State through his (Akeredolu) recent donation of 50 fitted vehicles to security agencies.
The highlights of the occasion was marching to the Okunre Shrine by the Oba and the indigenes of the community to offer prayers and thanksgiving for a bountiful harvest.
